Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
